“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
John 14;27
When Jesus was preparing His disciples for His departure from this world, He comforted them by giving them the gift of peace. This was not just worldly peace, it was His peace — peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7). What a wonderful gift!
Jesus knew that His followers would face trying times. He knew that they would have difficult and dangerous situations. Jesus knew that on their own His disciples might begin to doubt, even give up and lose hope and peace. But in these times of unrest, they could draw from His gift of peace to calm their lives and strengthen them to continue on in their work.
Today, many things can cause unrest in our lives. We too face hard times, sometimes dangers and difficulties that want to overwhelm us. Our hope and peace may seem to vanish.
But Jesus gives to us that same wonderful gift of peace. It is not a peace that the world can give or understand, but a peace that only comes from God. A peace that we can feel in our hearts and minds when everything seems to be falling apart. A peace that can calm our greatest fear and strengthen us to keep going.
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your wonderful gift of PEACE!
