“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24
Psalm 118:24 is a very familiar verse of scripture. We see it printed on everything from mugs to works of art. We teach these words to children and sing them joyfully together. We highlight them in our Bibles to remind us of God’s goodness.
But sometime we only feel like rejoicing and being glad when things are going well for us — when the weather is just right, when there are no problems to deal with, or when our lives are full and satisfied.
The truth is that every day is a gift from our good God. Whether it’s rainy or sunny, cold or hot, good or bad, God has still given us a new day in which to serve and worship Him. Whatever the day brings, God is with us to guide, lead and help. “His compassions never fail. They are new every morning.” Lamentations 3:22
As we rise each morning to begin a new day, let us always remember that it is a wonderful gift from our Lord. No matter what we encounter during the day the Lord deserves all our worship and praise.
