“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.”

Colossians 2:8

It is not always easy to live as a Christian in today’s world. Satan is hard at work trying to plant seeds of doubt, promote lies, and cause us to stumble in our walk with the Lord. We are bombarded daily with sin through media, association with others and our own weaknesses. The world teaches us to trust in such things as material riches, success, or fame. Although none of these are sinful in themselves, we know that none of them will bring true peace and lasting happiness. The world offers only a temporary “fix” for the problems we encounter. In Paul’s letter to the church in Colosse he warned against being deceived by the teachings of the world. Those words are relevant for us today too.

The path to true peace, joy and contentment in this life is a right relationship with Jesus Christ. James encourages us to persevere and stay faithful (chapter 1).  Jude gives a warning against false teachers and calls us to keep our faith in the Lord Jesus strong and solid.

Our Christian walk will not always be easy, but when we are faced with struggles, challenges and temptations we do not need to give in to the world. We can stand strong in our faith in Jesus Christ — our Rock and our Redeemer. We can trust the Holy Spirit to guide and lead us, and we can pray to God, through the Holy Spirit, to help us persevere.

Thanks be to God!
