“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
1 Chronicles 16:34
Today’s verse is part of a longer psalm or song by King David. In it David is praising and giving thanks to God for all His goodness toward His people.
There are three points in this verse that should be recognized. One is we should be grateful to God. There is no way we can count or even imagine all the blessings that the Lord bestows upon us. He protects us, provides for us, helps us, guides us and so much more. All that we are and all that we possess are gifts from a gracious God and in return we should humbly thank Him.
We do nothing to earn this goodness, it is simply because God is good. That is the second point. God’s goodness is so deep and so great that we cannot describe it. God’s goodness is wonderful, full of love and perfect! As 1 John 4:8 states “God is love”.
Lastly this love of God will last forever. There are some things that last a long time, but nothing lasts forever, except for God’s love. We can trust it, depend on it and believe on it. It never changes or goes away. God’s love endures anything and everything we may be experiencing. It will carry us through this life and on into eternity.
So let us give thanks to our great and loving God, who showers us with His goodness and loves us eternally.
