“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6
In the Bible we can find many names for Jesus— Son of God, Savior, Good Shepherd, Rose of Sharon, The Way, Bright and Morning Star, and Bread of Life are just a few of the more familiar ones. Some of the names speak of Jesus’ saving power, others
remind us of His deity, still others give us a sense of security and love.
The prophet Isaiah described the coming Messiah with four different names. He called him Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. What a wonderful message for those living during that dark time. Hearing this prophecy gave them hope for a brighter future, joy in knowing that one was coming to deliver them and bring peace, and security in knowing that this Messiah’s reign would be forever.
Jesus is still all those things for people today. He guides and helps us, He protects us, He has prepared eternity for us and He brings peace to so many broken and troublesome parts of our lives.
Thank you God for the gift of your Son and the joy that He can bring into our lives each day.
