“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Galatians 6:9
It is easy to become weary in our Christian walk. We are confronted daily with stumbling blocks that draw our thoughts and attention away from God. We are bombarded with activities, functions, and responsibilities that consume our time and resources. Frankly, sometimes we just get tired and need to rest. It is easy to become drained or burned out. But today’s verse encourages us to “stay the course”. Take a break, rest when you need to, but don’t give up - always persevere.
Perseverance has been described as a mindset— a holy determination to continue in faith for the long haul — to remain steadfast. Paul, the writer of Galatians, must have felt weary at times. God gave him these words to encourage him. Paul, in turn, shared this message with the Galatians, and now it is recorded in the Holy Scripture for us. We can also find several verses in Hebrews 10 (verse 22, 23, 24, 35) that reiterate this thought.
God knows it can be tough out there, but He will sustain us and strengthen us when we put our trust and faith in Him. It is not always easy to keep doing good, but God will help us persevere. When we remain faithful to the work we are given, we can trust God’s promise of a harvest when the time is right.
