“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
John 13;34
“Love like Jesus!” That is a saying we hear and see on signs, t-shirts or posters sometimes. That is exactly what Jesus said in this command to His disciples, and to us. Jesus loved with compassion, kindness, patience and true care for others. He healed those that were sick and brought the dead back to life, regardless of their position in society. He restored those that were lost without ridicule or condemnation. He always valued every human life. Every person was important to Him. His ultimate show of love was going to the cross to die for our sins so we would have a path for salvation.
If we are to love like Jesus, we must be kind and compassionate to all people. We must always respond with tolerance and patience and we must truly value each person just as Jesus did, knowing that they are also one of God’s creations.
If we want to make a difference in this world, we must love like Jesus. We must put aside our preconceived notions, our biases, and our prejudices. We must let Christ’s love abide in our hearts and mind and fill us with the attitudes that please the Lord. Then we can begin to fulfill this new command that Jesus gave to us.
