“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then…”
Ephesians 6:13-14a
When God’s people were facing a vast enemy army, they were afraid, to say the least. But one man, Jahaziel, prayed and God gave him a message for King Jehoshaphat. God’s message was, “Don’t be afraid or discouraged, this battle is mine.” God told them to take their positions and “stand firm”. The warriors went to battle singing and praising God and guess what? When they got to the battlefield the fighting was over already. Their enemies had fought each other and destroyed themselves. (Paraphrased from 2 Chronicles 2o: 5-17)
When it seemed that the Israelites were about to be overtaken by the Egyptian army, God sent a similar message through Moses - “Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring today…” God did deliver Israel from their enemy and they felt the power of the Almighty overshadow them as they crossed the Red Sea on dry ground! (Exodus 14:10-25)
We can still trust this same God to fight the battles we face in this life. It may be a troubled relationship, an estranged child, loss of income, sickness or any number of other struggles that come our way. But our God continues to say, “don’t fear, just trust, the battle mine”.
We must pray, praise, have faith and cover ourselves with His armor and then “stand firm” and know that the Almighty will give us the victory! “He who promised is faithful!” (Hebrews 10:23b)
