“I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”
Psalm 16:8
Life can be turbulent at times. We are “shaken” with all sorts of troubles — sickness, death of a loved one, financial issues, job demands, and family struggles— just to name a few. Jesus assured us that we would have trouble in this world, (paraphrased John 16:33).
How can we protect ourselves? How can we avoid the depression and despair that tries to control our lives? Jesus gave hope and encouragement in the rest of verse 33 when He said, “take heart, I have overcome the world”.
With Jesus as our foundation we can stand firm. When we cover ourselves with the full armor of God we can be strong. (Ephesians 6) When we set God always before us and beside us as our all in all we too can join the psalmist in declaring “I will not be shaken."
