But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9
The Apostle Paul wanted to give his all to the mission that God had given him. In the 2nd book of Corinthians Paul mentions that he has a “thorn in the flesh”, something that hindered him from doing all that he wanted to do for Christ. Paul had prayed about it and 3 times had asked God to remove the problem, but instead of the thorn being removed God told Paul just to trust HIm.
We may think we have to preach the loudest, sing the most beautifully or teach the most interesting Sunday School lesson in order to serve the Lord. Our hearts are willing to do the things we think God wants us to do, but we often run into thorns — our sermons are not as dynamic as we had hoped, our voice cracks when we sing, no one in Sunday School seems to respond to the lesson that we have worked so earnestly to prepare.
We may feel as though we are weak and are failing in our work for the Lord. It is at these times we should remember the words that God gave to Paul — “My grace is enough, my power is made perfect in weakness.” You see, God can take what seems like a failure to us and turn it into something powerful. His power uses our weaknesses when we humbly submit ourselves to Him.
The good news is that God does not ask us to be perfect in all we do. He just asks us to be willing to let Him use us. He will take our weaknesses, our inabilities and our failures and fill them with His power when we trust His grace.
