“… there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Luke 15:10

Have you ever lost something that was very valuable to you? Our first reaction is usually disappointment or sadness. But, then we begin to look for the lost item. We retrace our steps, we look anywhere and everywhere we think it might be. We ask others if they have seen it and maybe even enlist their help in the search. When we are successful in finding the lost treasure we  are happy, even overjoyed! We might even celebrate!

In chapter 15 of Luke, we find 3 stories or parables that Jesus told about something being lost and then found and each ended with rejoicing and celebration. We first read about one lost sheep, then one lost coin and lastly about one lost son. As we see God represented in each story we learn that He never gives up on us. He searches for those that have wandered away from the fold. He diligently looks for those that are lost. He watches for their return and He stands ready to welcome each one to Him.

John 3:16 tell us that God wants all people to come to Him. We are so precious and valued by God that Jesus died that everyone may have salvation. We are so important to our Heavenly Father that there is celebration in heaven when one sinner repents. Jesus said that there was “rejoicing among the angels.”
