“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand under it.”
1 Corinthians 10:13
Temptations are every where and they can lead us down the wrong path if we are not careful. We read in the book of Genesis that Satan tempted Eve by placing doubt in her mind and she and Adam ended up disobeying God and being expelled from the perfect Garden of Eden. Later in 2 Samuel, chapter 11 we read how David was tempted by Bathsheba’s beauty and committed adultery with her and then had her husband murdered. Jesus himself was tempted by the devil after His baptism. But that episode turned out differently. Jesus, of course, was perfect and never sinned. He used God’s Word and rebuked Satan’s lies to defeat the tempter. You can read about this in Matthew 4:1-11.
The truth is that we all have been tempted to sin in one way or another. Sometimes we are victorious, sometimes we are not. But the good news is that God has promised that He will never let us be tempted beyond what we can bear. And, He will even give us a way out. We must be like Jesus and be grounded in God’s Word, and trust Him for strength and guidance. James 4:7 tells us to “submit to God, and resist the devil”.
When we clothe ourselves with the armor of God and stand in His strength, we will be victorious no matter what the evil one may throw at us. (Ephesians 6:10-18)
Thanks be to God for His strong and mighty love for us.
