“… let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 5:16b

A group of Sunday School kids were asked “How do we share the gospel with others?” Their answers were varied, but all agreed that our actions speak volumes. When we are kind, when we acknowledge others, or when we go out of our way to help someone are all ways to show God’s love. Of course, we should always be willing to share that Christ died for our sins and offers salvation to all that will accept it, but it has to start with showing love and compassion.

Jesus is our greatest example of how to go about doing this. When Jesus encountered someone sick or in need of healing, He met their needs. Jesus didn’t always give long sermons or debate religious beliefs. He got to the heart of the matter by showing kindness, compassion and love. Yes, as God’s Son, He offered forgiveness for sins too (something we can’t do), but we can show others the love and care of Christ and point them toward the Lord.

So the next time you hold a door for someone, smile, offer a kind word or simply say “have a blessed day”, remember that your light is shining for Jesus. Those small acts of kindness may lead to bigger opportunities to  share the gospel and perhaps lead a lost soul to know the saving grace of Christ.

So let your light shine brightly and often that others will see God’s love in you; and they too will come to know Him as their Heavenly Father.
