“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” Ezekiel 37:26-27

When we accept Jesus as our Savior, God promises to change everything, starting with our heart. Scripture teaches us that the condition of the heart influences our thoughts, speech and actions. Proverbs 4:23 admonishes us to “guard your heart for it is the well-spring of life.” Jesus tried to explain to His disciples this idea in Matthew 15:18 when He said “But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart…” Yes, the spiritual condition of our heart shows the world what we are really like.
When God has replaced our hard heart of stone with a new heart of flesh, made tender toward Him, His Holy Spirit enters and moves us to let Him guide our thoughts, words and actions. The things we used to like are no longer attractive to us, our priorities are changed. We want to put God first, and we desire to serve and honor God with all we do and say.
Isn’t God good to know just what we need to get our lives right with Him. There is nothing we can do to earn these changes on our own. We must claim Jesus as our Savior, accept His salvation and let God begin the work of creating a new life in us. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”, 2 Corinthians 4:17.
