“And the one that sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne.” Revelation 4:3

Everyone is awed by a beautiful rainbow in the sky after a rain. Most of the time we are reminded of the story of Noah and how God placed the rainbow in the sky as a promise to never again destroy the earth with water. We see these colorful arches as a sign of God’s goodness, love and care.
But could it be that we are seeing only half the picture? In the book of Revelation, we read of another rainbow. This one encircles God as He sits on His throne. What an an amazing glimpse into Heaven this verse gives us! God’s appearance is like beautiful and precious jewels and He is surrounded by an equally beautiful bow made of emeralds! WOW!
Maybe the next time we are admiring a rainbow, we will be reminded that we are seeing only one part of this phenomenon. On the other side God is seated on His throne in the center of it.
“He who promised is faithful…” (Hebrews 10:23b) His goodness, love and care does not end but continues on to us and to all future generations.
Praise be to God!
